The Discipline of Showing Up
Consistency is unglamorous and undefeated. On why the people who win quietly are usually just the ones who kept showing up when it stopped being exciting.
Most of what I’ve built came from showing up — for the work, for the people in my life, for my own growth — on the days it would have been easy not to. Motivation is a guest; it visits and it leaves. Discipline is the standing appointment you keep whether or not the guest arrives.
There’s nothing romantic about it. It’s answering the call you’d rather dodge, doing the rep no one is counting, keeping the small promise when no one would notice if you broke it. But those invisible reps are the whole game. Character is just consistency that’s been around long enough to look like a trait.
I try to lower the bar for starting and raise the bar for stopping. Show up, even halfway, even tired. You can almost always do the next small right thing, and the next small right thing, done daily, is indistinguishable from a vision over a long enough horizon.
